ABUJA — Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has sparked a fresh political firestorm by declaring that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, will never lead Nigeria. Speaking during a recent appearance on News Central TV’s 60 Minutes with Mr Kay, Bwala dismissed Obi’s future prospects, asserting that the former Anambra State Governor lacks the essential characteristics required of a Nigerian president.

Bwala claimed that Obi’s political trajectory is on a downward trend, stating that he would never cross the central business district that leads to Aso Villa. He attributed Obi’s previous momentum to a fake narrative and religious manipulation rather than organic grassroots support, suggesting that over 50% of the support base seen in 2023 has already dissipated.

The presidential aide further predicted significant hurdles for Obi in the 2027 cycle, arguing that no major political bloc, including the Labour Party, PDP, or ADC, would offer him a presidential ticket. Instead, Bwala suggested that Obi’s future role might be limited to serving as a Director-General for a broader opposition coalition rather than leading it as a candidate. He described Obi as an opportunistic politician who relies on rhetoric and division rather than a concrete governance agenda.

In a swift rebuttal, the Peter Obi Media Office dismissed Bwala’s comments as baseless and dishonest. Obi’s aides maintained that their principal remains focused on a new Nigeria and refuses to engage in the transactional politics they associate with the current administration’s spokespersons. This exchange marks an early escalation in political rhetoric as key figures begin to position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
