KAURA NAMODA — A fierce firefight is currently underway in Kungurki village, Zamfara State, as security forces and local vigilantes struggle to repel a massive incursion by armed bandits. The attack, which began in the late hours of Sunday and has stretched into the early morning of Monday, April 6, 2026, has thrown the entire Kaura Namoda axis into a state of panic. Sources on the ground report that the sound of heavy gunfire and sporadic explosions has characterized the night, with many residents trapped in their homes.

Local intelligence suggests that this is no random hit-and-run. The raid is reportedly a “revenge mission” led by a notorious bandit kingpin whose commander was recently captured and beheaded by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). One local source reported over a frantic phone call that the bandits arrived in large numbers, shouting that they came for blood because of the execution of their leader. While the CJTF and local fighters are standing their ground, it remains unclear if the Nigerian Army has reached the centre of the town as the situation remains extremely fluid.

This active siege in Kungurki comes during a weekend of extreme volatility across Zamfara State. Just yesterday, security forces in Tsafe LGA successfully neutralized scores of bandits, including the son of the infamous kingpin Ado Aleiro. This followed a separate raid in Bukuyum LGA on Saturday, where the State Police Command confirmed an unspecified number of villagers were marched into the forest. Even the state capital’s outskirts have not been spared, as the convoy of the Governor’s Chief of Staff narrowly escaped an ambush near Kucheri village late last week.

As of 1:45 AM, the battle for Kungurki is still ongoing. While the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard (CPG) is reportedly providing support to the local defenders, there is deep concern over the superior firepower typically deployed by these bandit groups. The Zamfara State Government has not yet issued an official statement on the current status of the village, but security sources indicate that reinforcements are being mobilized from Kaura Namoda to prevent the community from being completely overrun.
