LAFIA — The killing fields of North-Central Nigeria have claimed more lives as at least 11 people were butchered in the early hours of Friday during a gruesome communal clash in the Udege Development Area of Nasarawa Local Government Area. The attack, described by traumatized survivors as a “scorched-earth” reprisal, has left the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in ruins, with over 50 houses reduced to ashes.

Suspected hoodlums reportedly stormed the villages under the cover of darkness, purportedly in revenge for the earlier killing of two individuals. By daybreak, the once-peaceful settlements were transformed into a ghost town of charred remains and grieving families. Hundreds of residents have been forced to flee into the bushes, abandoned by a state security apparatus that many feel only arrives after the blood has already been spilled.

“Where Is the Protection?” — Nigerians Explode in Anger
The Nasarawa massacre has ignited a fresh wave of fury among the Nigerian masses, who are tired of the constant “thoughts and prayers” from the President Bola Tinubu administration. From the streets of Abuja to the digital squares of social media, the condemnation is deafening. Citizens are openly questioning why the government can deploy a battalion of aides to harass opposition figures like Peter Obi and journalists like Seun Okinbaloye, yet cannot secure rural farming communities from predictable reprisal attacks.

“This government has abandoned its primary duty,” one local leader lamented. “They are too busy plotting how to stay in power in 2027 to care about the 11 lives lost today. Our blood is cheap in the eyes of the APC.”

The Jos Embarrassment Remembered
The latest tragedy has reopened the deep wounds of Tinubu’s “fake visit” to Plateau State. Nigerians have not forgotten the embarrassment in Jos, where the President’s visit was slammed as a choreographed PR stunt that offered no real solace to the victims of the Christmas Eve massacres. The masses remain bitter over how the presidency “insulted” the intelligence of the Plateau people with empty promises while the killers remained at large. To many, the Nasarawa killings are just another chapter in a long book of state-sponsored neglect and administrative failure.

Police Vow Manhunt Amid Widespread Distrust
The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the smoldering remains of Akyawa to assess the damage, vowing that tactical teams have been deployed to hunt down the perpetrators. “We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident,” Mohammed stated, promising that those behind the violence would be prosecuted.

However, these promises ring hollow for many Nigerians who have seen similar vows lead to zero arrests in the past. The public is increasingly looking toward international intervention, with many expressing joy at the news that U.S.-based policy firms are briefing the Trump administration on the deteriorating situation in Nigeria. The consensus among the masses is clear: the current system is broken, and only a radical reengineering of the electoral and security framework can save the country from total collapse.
