ABUJA – A captured Boko Haram suspect has alleged that a senior military official in Abuja, whom he identified as “Baban Soja,” is the primary sponsor behind his insurgent group’s operations.
The claims were made in a viral interrogation video showing the suspect tied to a tree and being questioned by soldiers. Speaking in a mix of Hausa and Nigerian Pidgin, the captive asserted that his commander is in direct contact with the high-ranking officer in the nation’s capital.
The Allegations
The suspect claimed that his commander’s family is currently under the protection of the “Big Soldier” in Abuja. He offered to lead the military to the sponsor’s location but refused to disclose specific identities while bound.
“My oga dey work for that big soldier for Abuja,” the suspect stated, insisting that he would only “show everything” if he was untied first. He consistently withheld further details despite pressure from the interrogating soldiers.
Security Implications
The video has intensified concerns over “fifth columnists” within the Nigerian military. These allegations surface as the Federal Government continues the prosecution of several retired high-ranking officers for alleged terrorism and treason.
While the military high command has not yet identified the individual referred to as “Baban Soja,” the suspect’s claims suggest a deep-seated breach within the security architecture in Abuja.
