GUSAU – A member of the traditional guard unit attached to the Emir of Zamfara, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, has died following an ambush by armed bandits along the Mayanchi–Anka Road.
The victim, identified as Jamilu, was a prominent member of the Dogarai (traditional palace guards) and was best known for his role as the official bearer of the Emir’s ceremonial umbrella during public functions.
According to local sources, the attack occurred on Sunday afternoon when a group of heavily armed men opened fire on the Emir’s guards as they travelled along the highway. Jamilu sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the encounter and was immediately evacuated to the Gusau General Hospital for emergency medical attention.
Medical personnel confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment late Sunday evening.
The Mayanchi–Anka highway has remained a flashpoint for criminal activity in recent weeks. This latest incident follows a series of security breaches in the North-West region, prompting renewed calls from residents and security analysts for the Federal Government to intensify patrols and implement more robust intelligence-gathering measures along critical transit routes.
State authorities and the Zamfara Emirate Council have yet to issue an official statement regarding the burial arrangements or specific details of the security response following the ambush.
