LAGOS — The 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), has sent a strong warning to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the 2027 electoral battle in Lagos State will be decided at the polling units rather than in the courtroom.
In a scathing critique of the current administration, Rhodes-Vivour vowed to dismantle what he termed the “lawlessness and abuse of power” currently prevailing in the state.
‘Enough is Enough’
Taking to his official channels, the LP chieftain insisted that the era of seeking judicial redress after electoral discrepancies is over.
“Nobody is going to Court in 2027. Everything that will happen will happen on the day of Election. Enough is Enough,” he stated, signaling a shift toward a more aggressive “protect-your-vote” strategy for the next general elections.
Vision for a New Lagos
The architect-turned-politician, who finished as the first runner-up in the 2023 polls, expressed confidence in his ability to unseat the APC. He pledged to “Restore Lagos back on a path of growth and decency in governance,” promising an end to the systemic issues he claims have hindered the state’s potential.
Rhodes-Vivour’s remarks come amidst heightened political positioning in Lagos, as opposition figures begin to consolidate ahead of the 2027 cycle. His emphasis on “decency in governance” directly targets long-standing criticisms regarding the influence of political godfathers and the conduct of state-sponsored enforcement agencies.
Rising Political Tensions
Political analysts suggest that GRV’s “no court” stance reflects a growing lack of confidence in the post-election judicial process among opposition figures. By insisting that “everything will happen on the day of election,” he is likely mobilizing his base for a high-stakes confrontation at the ballot box.
The APC has yet to issue an official response to his claims, though party loyalists have consistently dismissed the Labour Party’s chances, pointing to the ruling party’s deep-rooted grassroots structure in the Centre of Excellence.
