OSLO — A powerful explosion ripped through the consular entrance of the United States Embassy in Oslo early Sunday morning, triggering a massive security lockdown in the Norwegian capital.

The blast occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. local time in the Huseby district. While the explosion caused visible damage to the reinforced exterior of the consular section, Norwegian police confirmed there were no injuries.

“We heard a massive bang that shook the windows, followed by a thick cloud of white smoke,” one resident told local media. “Within minutes, the entire street was swarming with police and helicopters.”

Norwegian authorities, including the national bomb squad and counter-terrorism units, have cordoned off a wide perimeter around the embassy compound. Forensic teams spent the early hours of the morning scanning for secondary devices and collecting shrapnel from the blast site.

Police Commander Michael Dellemyr stated that investigators are currently analyzing the debris to determine the specific nature of the device. “A full investigation is underway to identify those responsible for what appears to be a deliberate act,” Dellemyr said during a brief press conference.

The motive for the incident remains unclear, and authorities have urged the public to remain calm while the investigation proceeds. Oslo police emphasized that they are exploring all possibilities and cautioned against early speculation.

By dawn, the U.S. State Department confirmed they were working closely with Norwegian law enforcement to assess the situation. Security at the embassy and other diplomatic locations in the city has been increased as a precautionary measure. For now, the Huseby neighborhood remains under heavy guard as drones and K-9 units continue to sweep the surrounding areas for evidence.
