ABUJA — The factional President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Atiku Isa, has sent shockwaves through the political landscape with a chilling prediction that President Bola Tinubu could become the first Nigerian leader to end up behind bars.
In a viral statement that has set social media ablaze, Isa warned that the President’s grip on power has a fast-approaching expiration date. He claimed that even if Tinubu managed to “rig” his way back into office in 2027, he would not serve out the next six years as Commander-in-Chief.
“What Tinubu should know is that in the next 6 years, even if he rigs himself into office in 2027, he will not be president,” Isa declared. “So, what will happen to him? If he’s not dead, he can still be imprisoned. He might be the first president that would be imprisoned.”
The explosive comments come amidst a messy and violent fallout between the student leader and the first family. Isa previously alleged he was abducted and tortured by henchmen acting on orders from the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu—a claim the Presidency has repeatedly denied.
While APC loyalists have dismissed Isa’s “prophecy” as the ramblings of a frustrated agitator, opposition voices are pointing to the statement as a sign of the deep-seated resentment brewing among the youth over the country’s economic direction. Security agencies have not yet moved to arrest the student leader over the “imprisonment” threat, but tension remains high within the NANS headquarters.
