LAGOS — In a dramatic twist to a long-running scandal, Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Mountain of Liberty and Miracle Ministry, has formally withdrawn his public apology to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala.
The retraction follows Ogala’s explosive claims that she and the cleric were involved in a secret romantic relationship for seven years.
Apology Was Coerced, Says Cleric
Addressing his congregation during a recent church service, Okafor claimed his initial decision to apologize was not an admission of guilt but a result of intense pressure from close associates.
He revealed that he had been persuaded by people he considered friends to issue the statement as a way to de-escalate the public controversy. However, the cleric now maintains that the move was a mistake that misled the public.
“I was hesitant to follow their advice, as I believed issuing an apology would be interpreted as an admission of guilt,” Okafor stated. He suggested that the apology had been weaponised against him rather than serving as a tool for peace.
Dispute Over ‘Secret Relationship’
The saga began when Ogala took to social media to detail her alleged seven-year affair with the man popularly known as the “Generational Prophet.” While the initial apology appeared to signal a desire for a quiet resolution, this latest development indicates a shift toward a more confrontational stance.
By withdrawing the apology, Okafor has effectively distanced himself from the narrative of the affair, insisting that his previous words were forced rather than factual.
Mixed Reactions
The retraction has reignited debates on social media regarding the cleric’s credibility and the authenticity of the actress’s claims. While supporters of the ministry have rallied around the pastor, others have criticised the flip-flop as a poor PR move that further muddies the waters.
As of the time of this report, Doris Ogala has not issued a fresh response to the pastor’s latest claims.
