AWKA, NIGERIA – Barely 24 hours after being sworn in for a second term, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has directed all political appointees to hand over their duties with immediate effect. The directive, which marks a total dissolution of the state executive council, signals a major administrative overhaul as the Governor begins his new four-year mandate.
The order affects all commissioners, special advisers, and senior special assistants who served during his first term. According to a statement released by the state government, the outgoing officials are required to hand over all government property and official documents to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries or the most senior career officers in their departments.
This swift action has sparked intense speculation within the state’s political circles regarding the composition of the “Soludo 2.0” administration. While such dissolutions are standard practice during a transition, the immediacy of the Governor’s decision suggests a move to bring in fresh faces or reposition key allies to drive his development agenda for the state.
Observers note that Soludo’s first term was marked by significant focus on urban renewal and security, and this early cabinet shake-up may be a precursor to more aggressive policy shifts. For now, the administration will be managed by career civil servants until a new list of appointees is sent to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
