ABUJA — Serious allegations of unpaid and partially funded humanitarian projects have sparked deep concern at the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) under the leadership of Federal Commissioner Aliyu Tijjani Ahmed.

Investigations reveal that a youth-focused IDP project executed by the “I Am the Future of Nigeria Youth” Initiative (IFON) remains unpaid years after completion. Despite documented approvals and verified delivery, the organization reports that the Commission has ignored all efforts to secure payment, including formal legal correspondence.

In a related development, the Cormode Cancer Foundation has raised alarms over payment irregularities following a joint cancer awareness initiative. The foundation, led by a survivor currently undergoing treatment, completed the program after receiving official approval. However, only a partial payment has been made, leaving a significant balance outstanding.

Sources familiar with the matter allege that portions of the payments were processed through channels outside standard government systems, raising serious questions about compliance with public financial procedures. This has reportedly created profound challenges for the foundation, which requires verifiable institutional records to meet international grant accountability requirements.

The founder reportedly traveled to Nigeria multiple times for the project despite her grave health condition, relying on repeated assurances from the Commission that payments would be settled.

Observers note that these incidents highlight broader concerns regarding transparency, administrative continuity, and financial management under Ahmed’s leadership.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Commission and the office of the Federal Commissioner were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

Indications suggest the affected organizations may now escalate the matter to anti-corruption agencies, including the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Further developments are expected.
