ABUJA — With the country currently plunged into a near-total blackout, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has surfaced with a fresh promise to break the “gas supply jinx” that has left millions of Nigerians in the dark.
In an Eid-el-Fitr message released on Thursday, Adelabu admitted that the suffering caused by the persistent grid failures is reaching a breaking point. He claimed the Federal Government is finally taking “decisive steps” to pay off the massive debts owed to gas suppliers and fix the broken links in the power chain.
The Minister’s assurance comes as businesses and households across the country struggle to survive without a steady power supply, forcing many to rely on expensive fuel for generators. While the “Renewed Hope” agenda is being touted as the solution, many Nigerians remain skeptical, having heard similar promises of a stable grid for years.
Adelabu insisted that the focus is now on ensuring thermal power plants get the gas they need to keep the turbines spinning, potentially ending the cycle of constant grid collapses.
