KADUNA, Nigeria — A Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned the N1 billion fundamental rights suit filed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) until March 25, 2026.
The presiding judge, Justice R.M. Aikawa, moved the hearing on Wednesday to allow all parties involved to finalize their legal processes and responses in the high-stakes battle.
El-Rufai is demanding N1 billion in damages, alleging “persistent harassment” and the infringement of his fundamental rights. The suit follows a string of invitations and investigations by the ICPC and other agencies into his eight-year tenure as governor.
His legal team argues the probes are politically motivated attempts to tarnish his reputation and is seeking a court injunction to stop any further arrest or detention. Meanwhile, the ICPC maintains it is simply exercising its statutory power to investigate the alleged diversion of public funds.
The March 25 date is expected to be a major showdown, determine whether the court will grant the restraining orders or allow the investigations to proceed.
