ABUJA – The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has officially dismissed reports of his resignation, labeling a viral letter circulating online as a “clumsy forgery.”
The controversy erupted over the weekend when an image of a resignation letter, dated March 26, 2026, began spreading across social media. The document suggested that Adelabu was stepping down to pursue his 2027 governorship ambitions in Oyo State, ostensibly in compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for cabinet members with political aspirations to vacate their posts by the March 31 deadline.
However, the Minister’s spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji, issued a swift rebuttal on Monday, pointing out a glaring error made by the counterfeiters: the color of the ink.
“The Minister does not sign official documents with a blue pen,” Tunji stated. “This is a basic protocol in his office that the authors of this fake news failed to research. The signature and the medium used are entirely fraudulent.”
Ministry officials further clarified that while the President’s deadline has prompted several high-profile exits this week, Adelabu remains “fully committed” to the ongoing reforms in the national grid and power sector.
The Minister has urged the public to rely on official government channels for information, describing the rumor as a distraction by “mischief makers” intent on heating up the polity ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
As of Tuesday morning, Chief Adelabu remains at his desk in Abuja, continuing his official duties.
