A UK-trained medical doctor, Dr. Dominic Emerengwa, has defended Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s donation of school desks to schools in Abia North Senatorial District, questioning critics who have raised concerns about the timing and motivations behind the gesture.

Dr. Emerengwa expressed puzzlement over why critics are upset about Kalu’s intervention, asking if it’s because they “had nothing before” and are now angry. The senator has distributed over 400 desks, learning materials, and uniforms to schools in Umunneochi Local Government Area.

Critics argue Kalu’s actions may be seen as “vote-buying” or an attempt to win favor with constituents before elections. Others note that while the donation is commendable, it’s unfortunate it took a politician to address a basic need like school furniture.
