Edo State, Nigeria – A wave of terror swept through Edo State on February 8, 2026, as gunmen abducted five people, including a police inspector and his young daughter, in two separate incidents. The kidnappers are demanding a ₦100 million ransom for the release of the victims.
The first incident occurred at the home of Inspector Segun Obanowa in Auchi, where the gunmen took the inspector, his wife, and their daughter. The wife was later released and instructed to raise the ransom money.
In a second incident, Miss Tope Oriloye, a secondary school student, and Samuel Ilesanmi, who was at the Makeke Community Health Centre with his sick son, were abducted.
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the abductions and assured the public that they are working to rescue the victims. The Movement for the Advancement of Akoko Edo People has condemned the attacks and called for increased security measures.
The abductions have raised concerns about the safety of residents in Edo State and the growing trend of kidnappings in the country.
