ABAKALIKI — The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three children at Nkwagu Village

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 7, 2026, involved three yet-to-be-identified middle-aged women who reportedly visited the victims’ residence the previous evening.
Details of the incident
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Joshua Ukandu, the suspects allegedly lured the children out of their compound by giving them money to buy biscuits.
- The Victims:Â The abducted children include one male (2 years old) and two females (aged 2 and 4 years).
- The Suspects:Â Two of the children belong to the same mother, while the third belongs to another woman living in the same compound. The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a waiting tricycle (Keke).
Police Response
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
- Status of Investigation:Â As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests have been made, and no ransom demands have been reported.
- Preventive Measures:Â The Command has urged landlords in Abakaliki to strictly verify the identities of prospective tenants and ensure they provide credible guarantors to prevent criminals from infiltrating residential areas.
This incident follows a growing trend of child abductions in the state, which the Ebonyi State Government previously decried as a “crime against both God and humanity”.
