GWAGWALADA, FCT – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mohammed Kasim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council election, securing 22,165 votes against 17,788 for APC’s Yahaya Shehu. APGA’s Biko Umar followed with 1,687 votes.
Announced by Returning Officer Prof. Philip Akpeni on Sunday, the election across 10 wards was described as peaceful. The victory marks a shift in the FCT, despite significant backing for the APC candidate from the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. In his victory speech, Kasim pledged to focus on community welfare, women’s empowerment, and improved healthcare and education.
Broader FCT Results
Early reports indicate strong PDP gains across the FCT, with wins in Abaji (Musa Biliyanmu), Bwari (Julius Adamu), and Kuje (Zacharia Danlami), while the APC took Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) with Christopher Maikalangu. Despite some voter apathy, INEC confirmed the results reflect the will of voters.
