A video circulating on WhatsApp shows the Umunneochi community rejecting a constituency project from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, labeling it a joke. The project, consisting of donated wooden chairs, was met with bitter disappointment and anger from the community.
The rejection is the latest in a series of criticisms against Senator Kalu, with the Ohafia Youths Association previously calling for a ban on his reelection campaign in Abia North Senatorial District. The association accused Kalu of neglecting the area, citing a lack of visible senatorial projects, youth empowerment programs, and economic initiatives
*Allegations Against Senator Kalu:*
– *Lack of Development*: No meaningful road construction or economic intervention in Ohafia.
– *Insulting Empowerment*: Distribution of wheelbarrows seen as symbolic of an insulting developmental agenda.
– *Voter Suppression*: Alleged labeling of Ohafia as an IPOB zone, leading to voter intimidation and disenfranchisement.
The Senator’s office has denied these allegations, claiming strong grassroots support and a record of legislative advocacy and development initiatives. However, traditional rulers in Ohafia have rejected the youth association’s ban, citing constitutional rights to freedom of movement and association
