From Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu BAUCHI
Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has ruled out defection from the People’s Democratic Party, declaring that he remains loyal to the opposition party despite ongoing political realignments.
The governor spoke on Friday after meeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Responding to questions about defections and whether he felt politically isolated, Mohammed said the PDP remains a strong national brand with structures across wards and states.
“PDP is everywhere, in every ward, in every corner of the country. It has survived for over two decades,” he said.
He stressed that electoral success depends on grassroots mobilisation rather than national alignments.
“Elections are won from the polling units, not nationally,” he declared.
Mohammed also warned the ruling All Progressives Congress against complacency, saying rapid expansion without internal cohesion could trigger a crisis similar to what the PDP experienced in the past.
On speculation that he might follow other governors in defecting, he said: “I am not coming here for defection. I am here for governance and partnership.”
