Dare-devil gunmen, suspected to be cultists, have killed the President General of Ogidi Town Union, Sir Ikwuka Okoye Anumili, and another man in Ogidi, Anambra State, the hometown of legendary novelist Chinua Achebe.

The attack occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026, and was reportedly carried out by members of the NBM cult group in revenge for the death of their leader, Emma Amasco, who was arrested and killed by local security operatives.

Amasco had allegedly confessed to killing 46 people, including 17 in Ogidi, before his death. The motive behind the attack on Okoye Anumili is unclear, but sources say he was not a cultist and was targeted in retaliation for Amasco’s arrest.
