In a move reflecting the Bauchi State Government’s commitment to welfare and social responsibility, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has approved the appointment of Mrs. Sarah Ben into the state civil service following the death of her husband, a cameraman with Channels Television.
The late journalist, Pwakaniso Ben Sylvanus, was buried on Saturday in Kangling, Adamawa State, after losing his life in a motor accident while covering a project commissioning by the North East Development Commission.
The governor was ably represented at the funeral by the Commissioner for Information, the governor described the decision as part of government’s humane approach to supporting families affected by unforeseen tragedies.
He noted that the state government had taken immediate steps following the accident, including visiting injured journalists at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital and ensuring adequate medical attention.
The governor extended condolences to the bereaved family and members of the press corps, describing the deceased as a committed professional whose contributions to journalism will not be forgotten.
