Gunmen, suspected to be Fulani terrorists, are currently burning down homes in Anwase, Mbaikyor, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving residents in panic and distress. The attack has sparked outrage and calls for urgent government intervention.
Eyewitnesses describe a scene of chaos and destruction, with mud-brick and zinc-roofed structures engulfed in flames and thick smoke billowing into the air. The absence of security personnel on the ground has worsened the situation, with residents left to fray for themselves.
This latest attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents in the region, with Kwande LGA repeatedly targeted by armed bandits and herders. Just days ago, 16 traders and a mobile police officer were killed in a similar attack on Abande village market
The Benue State Government has yet to comment on the situation, but Governor Hyacinth Alia had earlier condemned a related attack, promising to strengthen security measures. Residents are demanding immediate action to protect lives and property
