The Federal Ministry of Works is set to allocate over N500 million for various empowerment programs across Nigeria, as outlined in the 2026 Appropriation Bill. The initiatives include training for hairdressers and makeup artists, supply of grinding machines, motorcycles, and mini-vans, as well as anti-drug abuse sensitization campaigns.
Some of the specific allocations include N35 million for grinding machines for women in Ndokwa/Ukwani Federal Constituency, South-South, and N35 million for training women in hairdressing, makeup, and soap production in Plateau State, North-Central. There’s also N70 million for skill acquisition and trade equipment for youths, women, and retirees in Gombe State, North-East, and N70 million for supplying mini pick-up vans, shuttle buses, and motorcycles to constituents in Ebonyi State, South-East. Anti-drug abuse campaigns and youth empowerment programs in Zamfara State, North-West, are also covered.
The proposed expenditures have sparked debate, with some questioning whether these allocations align with the ministry’s core mandate.
