Abuja, Nigeria – Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has advised King Ateke Tom, a prominent traditional ruler in Rivers State, to steer clear of the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Wike’s warning came during a visit to the monarch’s palace in Ogu/Bolo, where he emphasized that a decision had already been made regarding the political situation and there was no room for intervention. “We have taken our decision, do not interfere,” Wike said, adding that he was only informing the king out of respect.
The minister’s visit is seen as a strategic move to neutralize potential peacemakers and ensure that influential figures like Ateke Tom do not intervene in the political battle between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Wike’s comments come amidst a backdrop of escalating tensions between him and Fubara, with the Ijaw People’s Congress recently announcing its support for Wike and abandoning Fubara .
The traditional ruler, while welcoming Wike, avoided making any direct political comments, focusing instead on the personal bond between them.
