According to a high-ranking ally of the Governor who spoke to Reliant.ng on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the proposed terms seek to grant the former Governor significant control over the state’s executive and judicial leadership while effectively ending Fubara’s future political ambitions.
The first of the reported demands involves the immediate ratification of a commissioner list submitted by Wike. Sources indicate that following the restoration of constitutional order in late 2025, Wike nominated seven individuals for cabinet positions. Governor Fubara has reportedly remained hesitant to forward these names to the State House of Assembly, particularly after Wike-aligned candidates swept all 23 local government areas in recent elections, allegedly violating prior power-sharing agreements.
In a more drastic move, Wike has reportedly demanded the removal of the current Chief Judge of Rivers State, Hon. Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi. Under the proposed terms, Wike would nominate a successor to be ratified by the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly. Political analysts suggest this move is designed to ensure a more favorable judicial path should the Assembly pursue impeachment in the future.
Simultaneously, the Governor’s ally alleged that Wike and his legal team are seeking a fresh order from a Federal High Court in Abuja to mandate the State Assembly to proceed with the impeachment. This move comes despite existing orders from the State High Court. Legal observers have noted that a Federal High Court cannot vacate an order from a State High Court, as both courts exercise concurrent jurisdiction, setting the stage for a potential constitutional crisis.
As of Wednesday evening, the FCT Minister’s office has not officially confirmed these negotiations. However, the leaked conditions have further deepened the divide in the oil-rich state, as Governor Fubara weighs the survival of his administration against what his supporters describe as a total surrender of executive sovereignty.
