Abuja, Nigeria – Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has delivered a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), telling them to keep out of Rivers State affairs as tensions escalate between him and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a strongly-worded statement, Wike advised APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru to seek guidance from those who have previously attempted to intervene in Rivers State, saying his support for President Bola Tinubu should not be taken for granted.
The Minister’s remarks come amid a bitter feud with Fubara, who has been at odds with Wike since assuming office. The APC has endorsed Fubara for a second term, potentially relegating Wike’s influence in Rivers politics.
Wike has accused Basiru of overstepping his bounds, saying he should be cautious with his statements. “I will advise the Minister of Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, to warn the APC National Secretary when President Tinubu returns,” Wike said.
The Minister emphasized that Rivers State is off-limits, and he is confident in his ability to challenge anyone. “I am not aware of the efforts of those who worked to achieve success in Rivers State, but I will not be intimidated,” he said.
The feud has raised concerns about the stability of Rivers State, with the PDP accusing the APC of hypocrisy. The situation remains tense, with both sides digging in. The outcome will have significant implications for Nigerian politics and the APC’s unity.
