Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has received backing from prominent politicians, including former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara. The show of support comes amid a power struggle between Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Other notable politicians who have pledged their support to Fubara include former Governor Celestine Omehia and former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo. These leaders expressed their confidence in Fubara’s administration and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s policies during a New Year banquet at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Fubara’s supporters believe his administration is focused on delivering good governance and stability in Rivers State. The governor has emphasized his commitment to unity and progress, describing 2026 as a year of “complete liberation” for the state.
The backing of these influential figures is seen as a significant boost to Fubara’s leadership, especially given the ongoing tensions with Wike.
