Senator Muhammad Ogoshi, who represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
The lawmaker announced his defection on Tuesday, describing the move as a carefully considered decision taken after wide consultations with political associates, constituents and stakeholders across Nasarawa West. According to him, the decision was driven by his desire to align with a political platform he believes offers a clearer vision for inclusive governance and sustainable development.
In a statement made available to journalists, Senator Ogoshi said the ADC coalition provides a stronger framework to pursue people-oriented policies and deepen democratic values. He expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity to serve under its platform but noted that prevailing political realities informed his decision to seek a new political direction.
“I remain committed to the service of my constituents and to advancing legislation that promotes economic growth, social justice and good governance,” the senator said, adding that his defection would not distract him from his legislative responsibilities at the National Assembly.
Reacting to the development, leaders of the ADC coalition welcomed Senator Ogoshi into the party, describing his defection as a significant boost to the coalition’s growing national profile. They said his experience and political weight would strengthen the party’s efforts ahead of future electoral contests.
Meanwhile, PDP officials in the state have yet to issue an official response to the senator’s resignation as of press time.
Senator Ogoshi’s defection adds to the recent wave of political realignments ahead of ongoing coalition-building efforts among opposition parties, signaling what analysts describe as an intensifying struggle for influence in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
