Former Vice President, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has reaffirmed his total commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring his intention to remain a loyal member of the party throughout his political life. The elder statesman also formally endorsed the rebuilding and repositioning efforts spearheaded by the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).
Sambo made these declarations on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, while receiving the party’s national leadership during a high-profile consultative visit to his residence in Abuja. The visit is part of a broader nationwide strategy by the PDP to engage critical stakeholders and consolidate the party’s structure following the landmark leadership changes of late 2025.
The National Chairman of the PDP, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, opened the meeting by expressing deep appreciation for the former Vice President’s historical role in sustaining Nigeria’s democracy. Turaki specifically cited the sacrifices made by Sambo and the Goodluck Jonathan administration during the 2015 transition of power. He noted that the visit served to brief the former Vice President on the current prospects and challenges facing the party, while formally seeking his counsel on the NWC’s new rebuilding programmes.
Several prominent party leaders accompanied the Chairman, including the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara; former Plateau State Governor, Senator Jonah Jang; and former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana. Other notable figures in the delegation included former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Inna Ciroma, and the Leader of the PDP Caucus in the House of Representatives, Hon. Frederick Agbedi.
In their joint remarks, the leaders expressed a renewed sense of optimism regarding the party’s trajectory. They emphasized that Sambo’s unwavering support provides a significant moral and political boost to the ongoing efforts to stabilize the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The PDP has intensified these consultative meetings in recent weeks as it seeks to offer a unified and formidable opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
