Ohanaeze Ndigbo Appoints Soludo’s Aide, Nelson Omenugha, to Key Igbo Charter Committee

Dr. Nelson Omenugha, top aide to the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has been appointed by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide as a member of the Committee for the Crafting of the Igbo Charter of Demands.

The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated January 15, 2026, and signed by the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata.

In the letter made available to journalists, Senator Azuta-Mbata explained that the Committee was constituted as part of a deliberate effort by Ohanaeze Ndigbo to create a unified and well-defined position on what Ndigbo will offer to Nigeria and what the Igbo nation expects in return from the Nigerian state.

According to the letter, Dr. Omenugha, a Communication scholar, social entrepreneur and public affairs analyst, who currently serves as the Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programme, is expected to work with other Committee members towards achieving a 5-point terms of reference assigned to it by the Apex Igbo Socio-Cultural organization, within a stipulated timeframe.

The letter further outlined the terms of reference for the Committee, which include to articulate the aspirations and demands of the Igbo people, to identify key areas of concern affecting Ndigbo, and to draft a comprehensive Igbo Charter of Demands document.

Other responsibilities assigned to the Committee members include engaging relevant stakeholders across Igbo land and beyond to gather inputs for the charter, as well as presenting the final document to the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide upon completion.

Senator Azuta-Mbata further stated that the timeframe for concluding the assignment is two months, stressing the need for members of the committee to work collaboratively in order to achieve the objectives of the assignment within the stipulated period.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo PG also disclosed in the letter that the inauguration of the Committee for the Crafting of the Igbo Charter of Demands is scheduled to hold virtually on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 12 noon.

From reactions trending on social media, the development has been described as quite commendable of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The appointment has also been viewed as a befitting recognition of Dr. Omenugha’s intellectual depth, policy experience and longstanding engagement in youth development, communication and public affairs, as well as his growing influence within national and Igbo socio-political discourse.

With the appointment, Dr. Omenugha is expected to contribute meaningfully to drafting a clearly articulated, intellectually grounded and unified, broadly representative Igbo position on national issues; especially at such a time when conversations around equity, inclusion, restructuring and national cohesion continue to dominate Nigeria’s political landscape.
