ABUJA – In a move that signals cold isolation for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum has washed its hands of the ongoing plot to oust him, describing the crisis as a “legal matter” beyond their concern.

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, speaking for the forum on Wednesday, made it clear that the ruling party’s governors are losing no sleep over the third attempt by the Rivers State House of Assembly to remove Fubara from office.

“The APC governors are not worried about the Fubara impeachment move,” Sule told reporters. “We view it as a legal matter for the courts to decide.”

The declaration is a significant blow to Fubara, who recently made a high-profile tactical defection to the APC, reportedly hoping for a “political shield” from the party hierarchy against his predecessor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Instead, Governor Sule’s remarks suggest that Fubara may have joined a new party only to find himself standing alone in a political minefield.

The timing of this “hands-off” approach is critical. While the APC governors look the other way, the Wike-aligned legislature, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, is aggressively pushing forward with impeachment proceedings. This pressure is further amplified by Wike’s media camp; his aide, Lere Olayinka, recently mocked Fubara as a “weak politician” and suggested he should “prostrate” before the Minister to save his job.

With his new party peers refusing to intervene and his “political senior” in Abuja showing no signs of a ceasefire, Governor Fubara’s survival now appears to rest solely on the outcome of a high-stakes legal tug-of-war in the courts.

Should the APC National Working Committee intervene to broker a truce, or is Fubara’s fate already sealed by his new party’s indifference?
