“The way we communicate with others and ourselves ultimately determines the quality of our lives.”
— Tony Robbins
Kafin-Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State is one of the largest, most expansive, and most populated local government areas, even dating back to the old Kano State. The town hosts two districts with two State House of Assembly members and is home to key educational institutions, including Sule Lamido University and the School of Remedial Studies. Despite its importance, Kafin-Hausa has been grappling with serious MTN network challenges for nearly a month.
These challenges range from the inability to make or receive calls, frequent call drops, poor internet connectivity, delayed or undelivered text messages, poor audio quality, and in some cases, a complete network outage lasting between two and three hours.
Many people for long, have been without knowing, having and seeing their bank transactions alerts due to this network challenge.
Some residents have alleged that the situation reflects a lack of efficiency, passion, or commitment on the part of MTN to serve its customers adequately. However, I suspect the problem may be due to unresolved technical faults. What is most concerning is that despite repeated complaints and follow-ups by concerned subscribers, including myself, and engagement with relevant agencies, MTN has neither resolved the issue nor issued any formal communication or apology to its hundreds of thousands of affected customers.
MTN’s commitment should not be limited to major cities alone. As a leading GSM service provider in Nigeria, the company must work to restore, stabilize, improve, and expand its network coverage across all communities, especially towns like Kafin-Hausa. The community hosts over twenty public secondary and primary schools, in addition to numerous private schools, as well as two higher institutions.
For some time now, residents have continued to suffer from unreliable services. The impact of this disruption cannot be overstated. Communication is central to modern life, and telecommunication companies should be fully aware of the economic losses and inconveniences their epileptic services cause subscribers. In Kafin-Hausa, many activities are virtually at a standstill.
Telecommunication enables people to connect globally and access information instantly, even from remote locations. As Nat Turner aptly stated, “Good communication is the bridge between confusion and clarity.”
MTN’s near absence in Kafin-Hausa for almost one or two months is deeply disturbing and disruptive. This is particularly troubling given the reliance of educational institutions on internet services for research, learning, and academic engagement, both during the day and at night. Sule Lamido University and the School of Remedial Studies together account for thousands of students and staff who depend heavily on stable connectivity.
Healthcare delivery and business transactions are other critical sectors adversely affected by this prolonged network failure.
In Kafin-Hausa, we have other telecommunication network service providers like the Airtel, glo and Etisalat but it is only the very mtn we are encountering and battling with this nightmare (Network challenge)
We therefore call on MTN Nigeria to urgently do the needful by restoring and stabilizing network services in Kafin-Hausa and other affected communities. Swift action is required to alleviate the hardship faced by subscribers.
Can we truly believe and stand by MTN’s slogan?
Is it indeed “MTN — Everywhere You Go”?
