Four Rivers State lawmakers have reversed their stance on the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, citing the governor’s lack of remorse and refusal to seek a political solution. The lawmakers, including Sylvanus Nwankwo, Peter Abbey, Barile Nwakoh, and Emilia Amadi, had initially appealed for a halt to the impeachment process but now support its continuation
The impeachment process, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, alleges gross misconduct, including extra-budgetary spending and defiance of Supreme Court rulings. The lawmakers claim Fubara’s actions demonstrate his unwillingness to govern in accordance with the constitution
The Rivers State House of Assembly has requested the Chief Judge to constitute a panel to investigate the allegations against Fubara and Odu. The move has intensified the political crisis in Rivers State, with the Pan-Niger Delta Forum inaugurating a reconciliation committee to mediate the situation
