From Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu, Bauchi

A political pressure group, Kaura Good Job, has thrown its weight behind Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, over his decision not to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group also condemned what it described as the careless use of terrorism allegations by government officials against prominent individuals, particularly at a time when the country is grappling with serious security challenges.

Speaking at a solidarity gathering organised in support of the governor on Sunday in Bauchi, the chairman of the group, Yakubu Babayo, said Governor Mohammed deserved commendation from well-meaning Nigerians for his contributions to peace in Bauchi State and the entire North-East region, as well as his role in strengthening democracy in Nigeria.

Babayo noted that the governor had taken deliberate steps to curb insecurity in the state by creating job opportunities, especially for unemployed youths, stressing that gainful employment remains a critical tool in reducing crime and insecurity.

“We organised this gathering to express our concern and register our displeasure over the unfounded allegations against our governor,” Babayo said. “Governor Bala Mohammed is a man of peace, and we will not allow anyone to malign his pedigree.”

He further accused some political actors of attempting to import what he described as “Abuja-style politics” aimed at destabilising Nigeria’s democracy, alleging that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was central to such moves.

Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of People Development, People Hardo Ward, Auwalu Ibrahim, thanked members for their steadfastness and urged them to remain loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite alleged intimidation and political pressure.

According to Ibrahim, the PDP remains the only party that genuinely understands and represents the interests of the masses, adding that successive PDP-led administrations had brought development closer to ordinary Nigerians.

He alleged that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and its political allies were bent on weakening the PDP through intimidation and the use of anti-graft agencies against opposition figures.

Ibrahim appealed to the electorate to always vote for leaders with courage and integrity, citing Governor Bala Mohammed as an example of a leader who stands firmly by his convictions.

Other speakers at the event commended the organisers for their resilience and solidarity, particularly in defending the governor against terrorism-related allegations.

Also speaking, Yusuf Sulaiman Wambai, representing the 1,250 CSS Group Farms beneficiaries undergoing training in Agricultural Value Chain development, pledged their support for the governor and dismissed claims linking them to terrorist sponsorship in the state.

The group further vowed to support any candidate endorsed by Governor Bala Mohammed in the 2027 general elections in Bauchi State.
