ABAKALIKI — Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the immediate removal of all government appointees, traditional rulers, and community leaders from the Amasiri clan in Afikpo Local Government Area.
The sweeping directive follows a violent attack on Okporojo village in Oso Edda community on Thursday, which left four people beheaded and several properties destroyed. Security reports linked the brutal killings to a long-standing boundary dispute between Amasiri and its neighbors.

Total Leadership Dissolution
During an on-the-spot assessment visit to Okporojo on Saturday, the Governor announced the termination of every Amasiri indigene serving in his administration, including Prof. Amari Omaka, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education.
The sanctions effectively dismantled the community’s entire governance structure. All traditional rulers were dethroned with their certificates of recognition invalidated, while every Management Committee member from the area was relieved of their duties.
Furthermore, the Amasiri Town Development Union was dissolved, and all village heads across the autonomous communities were removed with immediate effect.
A “Point of No Return”
Visibly saddened by the level of brutality, Nwifuru stated that the Amasiri leadership had failed to show a genuine commitment to peace. He warned that the situation had reached a “point of no return,” noting that neighboring communities were already preparing for retaliatory attacks.
“We will show everybody why we are government,” Nwifuru declared, assuring the victims that the state would decisively handle the perpetrators and restore permanent peace to the area. The Governor urged residents to remain calm while security agencies conduct thorough investigations into the barbaric incident.
