Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State made his first public appearance since the controversy surrounding his impeachment threat by Martin Amaewhule and his colleagues. The Governor attended an Inter-Denominational Church Service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day
The event, dedicated to honoring Nigeria’s military personnel, was noticeably absent of Rivers State House of Assembly members, sparking public concern and raising questions about their decision not to stand in solidarity with the Armed Forces.
The impeachment threat against Governor Fubara stems from allegations of gross misconduct, including refusal to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill and extra-budgetary spending. The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has given the Governor a seven-day notice to respond to these allegations
The political crisis in Rivers State has been fueled by a power struggle between Governor Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The situation has sparked concerns about stability and safety in the state.
