Abuja, Nigeria – Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has sparked fresh discussions about Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections. In a recent interview, Fayose revealed that Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, is the driving force behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s national presence.
“Without Obi, ADC would struggle to remain visible on the national stage,” Fayose stated, emphasizing Obi’s significant influence on the party’s relevance. The former governor also criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying it’s grappling with serious internal challenges and has lost considerable ground.
Fayose clarified that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde shouldn’t be blamed for PDP’s woes, while reaffirming his support for President Bola Tinubu, whom he backed in the 2023 election. “I’ve remained consistent with that stance, though I’m not a formal APC member,” Fayose said.
