ABUJA – The Presidency has launched a blistering verbal assault on Peter Obi, with Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, accusing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader of being an “unprincipled” politician driven by a “politics of desperation.”
In a scathing assessment released via his official X handle on Thursday, Onanuga claimed that Obi has set a “new record for political desperation” in his quest for the 2027 presidency. The presidential aide alleged that the former Anambra State Governor is a leader who “shifts with the wind and the trends on X,” lackng any firm ideological standing.
“Obi has shown himself to be unprincipled—a politician willing to go back on his words, abandon his political platform if it is no longer a significant factor… and even ‘eat his own vomit’,” Onanuga stated. He further accused Obi of “throwing his supporters under the bus” by ditching the Labour Party (LP), the vehicle that powered his 2023 “Obidient” movement.
Alliances and U-Turns
The Presidency’s critique centers on Obi’s recent tactical realignments, including his move to the ADC and his willingness to build bridges with former rivals. Onanuga argued that Obi is now associating with individuals he once “pilloried,” suggesting that the presidential hopeful has no permanent convictions, only permanent interests.
“No one can be sure where he stands on any issue,” Onanuga added. “He certainly lacks the character of a reliable political leader.”
Escalating Verbal Warfare
The attack comes as Obi continues to hammer the administration over its handling of national security, specifically the recent mass abductions in Kaduna. Obi has maintained that the North is “suffering under incompetence” and has vowed that the region would “celebrate” his presidency if he is given the chance to end the “hydra-headed monster” of insecurity.
While the ADC and Obi’s media team have yet to issue a formal response to the “vomit” remark, the exchange signals a deepening animosity between Aso Rock and the former LP candidate as the 2027 campaign cycle begins to heat up.
Will Peter Obi’s core ‘Obidient’ base migrate with him to the ADC, or will the Presidency’s “unprincipled” narrative successfully fragment his support?
