The Bauchi State Government has announced plans to commence the payment of allowances to imams and other religious scholars across the state as part of efforts to strengthen peace, harmony and social cohesion within communities.
The initiative followed an emergency meeting of the State Economic Management Council, chaired by the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, at the Government House in Bauchi.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Head of Service of the State, Barrister Muhammad Sani Umar, confirmed the development.
He explained that the allowance scheme is designed to appreciate and recognise the vital role played by imams and other religious leaders in promoting peace, moral values and overall societal development.
Barrister Umar further disclosed that the payment of the allowances would be implemented in phases and carried out with transparency and fairness, in line with the government’s commitment to due process and prudent financial management.
