Abuja, Nigeria – A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, says former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s decision not to choose Nyesom Wike as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election has been vindicated by Wike’s recent actions.
Momodu expressed this view in an interview with Arise TV, saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) now regrets accommodating Wike in its government. “APC is thoroughly embarrassed today. They brought in this bull into a china shop and they will have to live with it,” Momodu said.
He recalled that many people criticized Atiku for rejecting Wike as his running mate, questioning his strategic judgment. “People thought Atiku was stupid when he didn’t pick him as running mate. A lot of people called me: Atiku is not a good politician. He should have pretended and just appointed him and won and then dealt with him,” Momodu stated.
Momodu emphasized that Atiku prioritizes principled politics, refusing to compromise his values for electoral advantage. According to him, Atiku operates without desperation, thuggery, or control over state resources for political patronage.
Recall that Atiku had explained he didn’t pick Wike as his running mate because he was the second choice on the list submitted by a PDP committee, with Ifeanyi Okowa ranked first.
