Abuja – Former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung has cautioned against underestimating Rotimi Amaechi’s presidential ambitions, warning that the former Minister of Transportation is covertly preparing for a significant political coup within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement on SYMFONI Television, Dalung said Amaechi’s low-key demeanor since the 2023 elections has allowed him to build strategic alliances and solidify his position away from the media spotlight. “If they are not careful, they will be surprised,” Dalung warned, adding, “I know what Rotimi is doing underground.”
Dalung believes Amaechi’s underrated approach may give him an edge, particularly if top contenders neutralize each other through internal competition. He cited historical precedents where unexpected candidates emerged when prominent candidates cancelled each other out, suggesting Amaechi could fit that mold.
While acknowledging Peter Obi’s popularity, Dalung emphasized that political momentum doesn’t guarantee future success, especially in a crowded opposition landscape. He cautioned against overlooking emerging strategies within the ADC, insisting Amaechi remains a strong contender
