The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Parliament has accused former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, of seeking political relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections through what it described as divisive narratives.
Addressing journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday, Chairman of the APC Youth Parliament, Kabiru Garba Kobi, alleged that Dogara worked against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election and has now resurfaced with comments capable of destabilising the ruling party.
Kobi dismissed speculations that President Tinubu may drop Vice President Kashim Shettima for a Northern Christian running mate in 2027, describing the claims as misleading and politically motivated.
He said the youth body welcomed the endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term by the National Forum of Former Legislators at its 2026 National Summit, noting that the development signalled continuity and stability.
While expressing concern over reports that 17 former lawmakers later distanced themselves from the endorsement, Kobi said some political actors were exploiting the situation to cause internal discord within the APC.
He warned that any attempt to replace Shettima would cost the party significant support in the North, particularly the North-East.
