In a groundbreaking move that promises to revolutionize community development in Ahiara Ofo Iri, Mbaise, the Ahiara Union Inc. of Washington, D.C., has approved the disbursement of ₦40.8 million for various projects aimed at uplifting the local population. This ambitious initiative includes ₦4.8 million earmarked for the Imo Health Insurance Scheme (ISHIS), which will provide healthcare coverage for 320 citizens, ensuring that quality medical services are accessible to those in need.
The funding will support the Imo State Health Insurance Agency’s (IMSHIA) efforts to deliver affordable and quality healthcare under the “ImoCare” program. This government-backed initiative, supported by the World Health Organization, aims to alleviate the financial burden of healthcare on families by offering subsidized plans that include free treatment for one year following a nominal enrollment fee at primary health centers.
The remaining ₦36 million will be allocated to various community-mandated investments, reinforcing the commitment of Ahiara Union Inc. to address the pressing needs of the Ahiara Ofo Iri community- namely Obodo Ahiara, Nnarambi, Oru na Lude, Otulu, Ogbe, Akan, Amuzi, Agu na Eze, Ogwusma and Obodo Ujichi.
Prince Ndy Oparaoji, a US based Certified Public Accountant and the organization’s president, expressed his vision for the community, stating, “We are launching a bold initiative to provide empowerment programs that equip people with skills to build better lives and to establish healthcare infrastructure that ensures our elderly and needy are not forgotten. We envision wellness outreach, medical missions, health insurance access, and support centers that bring care and dignity closer to the people.”
