The Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has announced a strategic shift from routine traffic control to full-scale traffic management across major roads and intersections in the state, following the heavy influx of vehicles and visitors for the Christmas celebrations.

According to a statement and official traffic situation report issued by ARTMA on Wednesday, December 25, 2025, the agency noted that roads across the state have become extremely busy as thousands of people troop into Anambra to celebrate the yuletide with their families and loved ones.

The report, signed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ARTMA, Engr. Emeka Okonkwo, explained that ARTMA officers have been professionally redeployed and repositioned to manage traffic flow effectively, reduce congestion and ensure the safety of road users during the peak festive period.

ARTMA acknowledged the surge in vehicular movement as a reflection of the improved security situation in the state, describing Anambra as the safest state in the South East at the moment. The agency attributed this development to the sustained security efforts of the Soludo administration, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR.

While assuring residents and visitors of ARTMA’s commitment to keeping traffic moving smoothly, the agency appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate fully with traffic officers on duty.

ARTMA urged drivers to remain disciplined, stay within their designated lanes and obey traffic directives at all times, stressing that such cooperation is crucial to achieving safe and seamless movement during the festive rush.

The agency also reminded commercial vehicle operators and tricycle riders to make use of approved parks, warning against the use of road junctions, roundabouts and intersections for loading, offloading or other commercial activities, as such practices worsen traffic congestion and pose safety risks.

Engr. Okonkwo emphasized that ARTMA officers are working diligently round the clock to help road users reach their destinations quickly and safely, despite the increased pressure on the road network.

He further encouraged members of the public to support ARTMA’s operations by promptly reporting traffic situations or emergencies in their areas, noting that the agency remains responsive to distress calls.

ARTMA provided its emergency contact line, 08144228836, for residents to report traffic-related challenges for immediate intervention.

The agency concluded the report by wishing Ndi Anambra and visitors a joyful Christmas celebration, while reaffirming its resolve to sustain traffic orderliness throughout the festive season and beyond.
