A member of the Benue State House of Assembly representing Okpokwu State Constituency, Mr Anthony Agom, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Agom said that the decision was a difficult but necessary step taken in the interest of his constituency and the state at large.

The lawmaker bared his mind while speaking to journalists on Monday in Makurdi.

He said that the political climate in the country demanded unity rather than conflict, stressing that Nigerians must come together to move the nation forward.

According to him, recent developments at both the federal and state levels influenced his decision.

He praised President Bola Tinubu for what he described as impressive strides in governance, noting that similar efforts were being replicated in Benue by Gov. Hyacinth Alia.

He commended Alia for stabilising the political atmosphere and working for the collective good of the state, adding that leaders of goodwill should support the administration rather than distract it with opposition politics.

“As the governor is genuinely working for the entire Benue, then it behoves us to join hands with him.

“All hands must be on deck for him to achieve the great feat we all desire,” Agom stated.

He emphasised that his defection to the APC was aimed at giving full support to the governor’s administration and strengthening the collective agenda for development.
