From Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu BAUCHI
Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in public finance under Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration.
The Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, Amina Mohammed Katagum, stated this after the presentation of the ₦878.3 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly.
She highlighted key reforms, including recruitment of 10,000 workers in health, education, and agriculture to address manpower gaps and improve service delivery.
The administration is also strengthening traditional institutions and expanding community involvement through public hearings and transparent budget engagements.
Katagum noted that Governor Mohammed personally took part in MDA budget defense sessions—an unprecedented step toward inclusive governance. She announced a strong fiscal performance, with 79.1% budget implementation recorded in the first four months of 2025.
Breakdown of the 2026 budget shows a focus on capital spending, with a 65:35 capital-to-recurrent ratio. The Economic Sector receives the largest allocation at 49.6%, followed by the Social Sector at 35.4%. Priority areas include education, economic growth, and security.
She expressed confidence that the budget, once approved, would accelerate development and ensure no citizen is left behind.
