The Eastern People’s Congress EPC has petitioned the United Nations and other world powers demanding a conduct of referendum in the Eastern NIgeria to determine its political future .
The body insisted that the referendum is in line with international law on self determination noting that the time is long over due .
According to a statement by its Publicity Secretary Comerade Udensi Coolife Udensi the body rose from its meeting where it condemned the death sentence against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) .
“In a communique released the group denounced the judgment as a miscarriage of justice, citing the absence of a legal basis for the conviction, as highlighted in Section 36(12) of the 1999 Constitution”
“The EPC perceives this judgment as a form of oppression and marginalization against the Eastern Region of Nigeria, posing a threat to peace, unity, and national solidarity”
“The EPC calls upon Pro-Biafran and Pro-eastern organizations, movements, and stakeholders to unite in solidarity against the systemic injustices that continue to undermine the region’s progress”
“The group reiterates its commitment to peaceful advocacy, regional unity, and the pursuit of justice for all Eastern Nigerians”
It called for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu contending that the activities of the IPOB leader was inline with the struggle for self actualization and urged the United Nations and other Nations to conduct a referendum in the Eastern NIgeria.
“In response to these events, the EPC demands the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and calls on the United Nations and other international bodies to facilitate a referendum allowing the people of Eastern Nigeria to determine their political future in alignment with international law and the principles of self-determination”
“The Eastern Peoples Congress as an Advocacy, Human Rights and Self – determination group remains committed to peaceful advocacy, regional unity, and the pursuit of justice for all Eastern Nigerians” the statement read.
