From Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu BAUCHI
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has clarified that the recent incident in Darazo Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of some security personnel, was a communal clash and not an act of banditry.
Speaking at an extraordinary Executive Council meeting held Wednesday in Bauchi, the Governor reassured residents that the government remains fully in control of the security situation and is working with relevant agencies to restore peace.
“We are on top of the situation. Our security operatives are working round the clock to restore normalcy, ensure justice is done, and guarantee the safety of our people as they go about their normal activities,” he said.
Governor Mohammed also shed more light on the temporary closure of schools across the 20 local government areas of the state. He explained that the decision was based on intelligence reports encouraging proactive measures to ensure the safety of students.
“We were advised to close the schools due to security concerns affecting many parts of the country,” he said. “We are closely monitoring the situation, and once there is improvement, schools will reopen.”
He added that the state government is taking measures to strengthen security in educational institutions, including plans to fence all secondary and tertiary schools and deploy additional local vigilante personnel to protect students.
“The safety of our children is paramount. We will not take any security report concerning our schools lightly,” the Governor emphasized.
Governor Mohammed further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects before the end of his tenure. He noted that the performance of the 2025 budget has been encouraging, and the government remains determined to consolidate achievements while addressing developmental gaps.
The Governor commended members of the Executive Council for their cooperation and dedication in driving the administration’s development agenda across the state.
It could be recalled that five police officers were earlier reported killed in an ambush by suspected bandits, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries in Darazo Local Government Area.
