It was a scene of joy and excitement on Saturday in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, as Hon. Ikenna AzomChine, popularly known as the Obidient General, turned up at his maternal hometown to support voters during the November 8 governorship election.
Hon. AzomChine, who is a well-known grassroots mobilizer and philanthropist, visited Polling Unit 013 in Nibo, where he was seen moving around with a warm smile, personally sharing food and drinks to voters who had queued up to exercise their franchise under the hot sun. His action drew cheers and applause from the people, who described it as a thoughtful gesture that lightened the tension and encouraged patience among voters.
Beyond the polling unit, his foundation, Care and Hope Foundation, also made special arrangements for physically challenged voters across different wards in Nibo by providing vehicles to convey them to and from their polling stations. This made it easier for elderly and physically challenged persons to participate fully in the exercise without stress.
Community members and observers commended the initiative, describing it as a fine example of leadership that puts people first. According to them, Hon. AzomChine’s act of service at the polls reflected his long-standing reputation as a man who genuinely cares for others, not just in words but in practical deeds.
For many in Nibo, the gesture came as no surprise. Over the years, Hon. AzomChine has used his foundation to touch lives through youth empowerment, education support, and welfare programs. His visit to the polling unit, they said, was another proof that compassion and politics can go hand in hand.
“This is the kind of leadership people want to see, one that connects with the people,” a voter said while commending his acts of kindness.
The atmosphere at the polling centre remained peaceful, with voters expressing gratitude for the sense of community and comfort created by the presence of the Obidient General.
